INNER OUTER - Part I: Print Collection
Inner Outer is a print collection built on the belief that we are shaped into the people we are by the everyday surfaces and objects we come in contact with. The collection is a combination of digital prints and dye sublimation prints intended for an apparel collection that embraces the hybridization of loungewear and outer apparel. The motif development was inspired by conceptual artist Rachel Whiteread's cast spaces and Do Ho Suh's Rubbing/Loving series. I cast domestic spaces and vernacular possessions in paper and then preserved the abstracted shapes and characteristics of the forms by painting the cast objects with disperse dyes. After heat pressing the studies into one of a kind dye sublimation prints, I scanned the studies and digitally collaged them. The resulting patterns embody the expressive characteristics of the small reoccurring moments that are more evident of life than we ever give them credit. The seven digital patterns are shown below.
