Cate Hummel is a textile designer from the Midwest, currently based in Philadelphia, PA. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design and BFA in Photography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master's in Fibers (Textile Design) from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Cate has over 5 years of industry experience designing product. She is currently a Print and Textile Designer for Urban Outfitters, creating original repeat patterns, embroideries, and placed graphics for a variety of women's apparel and interior products. Overtime, she's refined her sense of print and color to strongly reflect seasonal palettes, trend direction, and brand sensibilities. In addition to contributing original artworks, she's skilled in cadding vintage artwork, trained in AI image prompting, and prepares technical artwork details for vendor manufacturing.
Cate aims to produce designs that are rich in materiality, beautiful in composition, and deeply meaningful to their audience. She is particularly passionate about the way physical materials transform image and color, and how trend can breath new life into contemporary culture, products, or ideas we may have overlooked.
